ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST/ENGINEER/GEOLOGIST (SENIOR): Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA Job Code: DIV-SMX-2009-06 Division: DIV Career Level: Experienced (Non-Manager) Education: Bachelor's Degree Category: Science Job Description: Tetra Tech, Inc., an industry leader and nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm, is seeking to fill a Senior Environmental Scientist, Staff Level position in the Air Force solid waste /compliance/civil engineering functional area. Responsibilities include: 1. Solid waste compliance issues, WDR/NPDES compliance, landfill operational documents, and development of pollution prevention solutions and alternatives. 2. Technical writing and hands-on equipment operations and maintenance. 3. Data review, option evaluation, and recommendation of best results. 4. Client interaction and presentation of options and results. Other specific technical areas will include: * Coordinate/Research/draft revisions solid waste regulatory documents, including the JTD, permits and other operational plans. * Coordinate with local regulatory agencies regarding proposed landfill Operation & Maintenance changes. * Review/Update the Solid Waste Facility Permit and provide regulatory support to Vandenberg AFB Solid Waste Manager. * Provide technical support for proposed/adopted California Integrated Waste Management Board regulations affecting Construction & Demolition program. * Provide review and technical support involving demolition/deconstruction planning as part of the initial project team meetings and Air Force Form 332 process. * Prepare Draft Report of Waste Discharge (ROWD). * Prepare reports on landfill Ground water/ geology conditions. * Update the California Integrated Waste Management Board Form E- 1-77 for Vandenberg AFB signature. * Develop a draft of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) evaluation for ROWD request. * Preparation of a Preliminary Closure Plan and Post Closure Maintenance Plan for the Vandenberg AFB Landfill. Job Requirements: Five to 10 years related work experience. Because the position is located on Vandenberg AFB, the successful candidate must be able to obtain clearance for base access, operation of government computers, and operation of government vehicles. Personable and able to work with a variety of organizations and individuals. Computer skills including MS Excel, Word, Access and other database software.
